This was the Saturday afternoon that Mr. bookbabie somehow accidentally (on purpose) misplaced his Honey-Do list. He said the dog ate it but I found it floating in the pool the next morning. You really can’t blame the guy though, can you?

Book Excerpt

The sun was bright but there was a chilled nip to the air that surprised Maxine, even though the calendar was about to turn over to December. She somehow always pictured the south of France to be a place that was perpetually glowing and warm, inhabited by partying royals, carousing celebrities, and half-naked sunbathers. She could see why Susie and Julia had decided to open their retreat center here. On the half-hour drive over from the train station she stared out the car window and watched as the country terrain began to roll gently under a lovely postcard blue sky, the fields and meadows changing color like the patterns on a quilt, moving from pale greens to muted golds to faded browns, dotted here and there with grazing creamy white sheep and striped with sleeping grape vines strung out like martyrs between five foot posts.
color me blue
In honor of our lovely planet, tune into the Live Earth Concerts today!
| BLUE |
I took a color quiz, the results are: BLUE-You give your love and friendship unconditionally. You enjoy long, thoughtful conversations rich in philosophy and spirituality. You are very loyal and intuitive.
the flower girl

My latest photo-manipulation. I’m having fun playing with Corel Painter X and my photo program. Ignoring my husband and my chores I suppose (my books too) but learning new stuff is good for the aging brain cells (and for the soul). Have a safe and happy 4th!
fleur blanche

I wandered into the garden today and took some photographs of my flowers. This is Monsieur Clematis Henryi, isn’t he a handsome fellow?
remembering dad
This is a photo of my daughter Lizzi and my father-in-law, Hank. I took out the background and color in Photoshop and I used the oily blender in Corel Painter to give it a brush stroked effect. Lizzi is twenty-four now and Hank passed away seven years ago. I still think of him often, and I will miss him and remember him fondly today. Happy Father’s Day all.
wacom portrait
I’ve been playing with my new Wacom pen and tablet. I took a photo of my daughter Lizzi and “painted” over it in Corel Painter. Fastest portrait I ever painted! There’s no substitute for the real thing, the smell of the paint and the way it feels in the brush, but I have to admit, this was pretty fun and there’s no clean up! If you click on the image you can view a close-up of the piece and see the brush strokes. There’s so much to learn that it’s a little overwhemling, maybe I should take a class?
a summer gift

One of the things I like best about summer is the smell of the honeysuckle vines I have growing next to the backyard gate. In the evening, when the air outside begins to cool, the night breeze gathers the sweetness of the little yellow flowers and carries it into the house through an open window, laying it before me…the perfect summer gift.
