July 4th

This year our family 4th of July get-together today takes on new meaning because next week my nephew is going to Iraq. That’s Charlie the Marine in the photo with my dad, who is a proud Air Force veteran. I’ve always loved this holiday weekend because it really makes me stop and think about what an extraordinary country we live in. We proudly fly our American flag every day, not only to honor our country, but also to remember the men and women who have served in military conflicts. Lee Greenwood’s song, God Bless the USA, is a classic that still brings a tear to my eyes…Happy 4th everyone!

  1. Hi Lilli, Yes—it does make me cry. Our troops (now and in past) have done so much to protect us and keep us safe. I wish we (as a country) would do MORE to appreciate them.

    God Bless your nephew.

    Have a wonderful 4th.

  2. My thanks go to your nephew Charlie and every other man and woman who serves in our military.
That song gets me every time too!

  3. I want to extend my sincere thanks to your nephew for his current service and to your dad too for his past service.

My dad was also in the Army Air Corps (it did not officially become the Air Force until 1948). He flew in a B-29 Superfortress out of Tinian Island in the South Pacific in WWII.

My oldest son is now preparing for possibly another tour in Iraq as I write this. He is supposed to be ending his 4 year term in active duty military in August with Terminal leave but it looks as though he will be getting stop-lossed and sent back to Iraq at the end of the year for another 12 months (his first tour was 15 months).

My thoughts, prayers, and gratitude are with your nephew.

    That is a wonderful photo.

    • Once practice a several of the posts against your blog cuntrerly, and so i actually such as manner of posting. My partner and i bookmarked as their favorite them to make sure you a take note of online site listing and are verifying again before long.

    • I look at wonderful women, like you, and my boss who manage children, homes, their business, their husbands, and their dogs. I have just me and my career right now. And I strive and WANT to juggle all that some day. I think the perfectionist in me will struggle just as sweetly but always be convinced I can do more, strive more, achieve more. I think we all need to step back and give ourselves a break. You’re doing great Aidan!

    • What a wonderful post and an awesome discussion. I experience this from time to time, but have yet to learn to listen to it, as in most cases I simply ignore, and 80% of the time, it turns out to be “disastrous” for me.

  4. A special thank you to your nephew Charlie and all people everywhere who fight to protect their country and justice. They do us proud. The song is very moving.

  5. PS: I couldn’t help but notice the baby is 5 days overdue! Wishing the little one a safe arrival, and the mom an easy time of it. Blessings to all.

    You must be so excited!

    • Yes, she is late although the docs did move the due date to the 4th. Meagan is having some labor pains today though so hopefully this it!
